When modifying Volkswagens, deleting the factory resonator has always been considered a "cheap" modification yielding equally "cheap" results. The Mk5 exhaust is different. The first day we lifted our Mk5 we noticed VW's muffler choice. Instead of the typical through-flowing resonator followed by a chambered muffler, the MK5 is equipped with a full-size chambered muffler followed by a thin chambered muffler in the rear. It was clear the first muffler did all the work, restricting exhaust flow and trapping all the sound.
