You can correctly "zero-in" (degree) your camshaft to the recommended setting with ease. In general, advancing the cam timing increases low-end torque and improves throttle response. Retarding the camshaft timing will generally shift the powerband upward, increasing top-end power. This is also good when installing a resurfaced head, because the gear can be used to correct for timing loss (retardation) caused by the cam being closer to the crankshaft. This gear will allow you to adjust for the peak performance and power range desired.
