VOLKSWAGEN IN TALKS TO JOIN FORMULA 1

Volkswagen Group announced back in June that they were officially dissolving the motorsports division of the company. With this news, it was a surprise in the recent Formula 1 meeting in Austria, Volkswagen mentioned in a few 'whispers' that they wanted to involve their 4 Cylinder engines in the new generation of Formula 1 race cars.

REPLACE THE V6

According to Red Bull's Dr. Helmut Marko, Volkswagen latest push in the sport was to have the regulations require the use of 4 Cylinder engines as e-fuels become more of the sports normal accelerant. With much pushback from the other major engine manufacturer's in Formula 1, Volkswagen is making friends with some major players.

BIG PLAYERS LIKE 4CYL

Mercedes and Aston Martin are like peas and carrots on the technical platform of F1, from whom they currently receive their engines, Lawrence Stroll would welcome VW as an additional manufacturer to provide the sport with a change of exhaust note and aspect of the sport.

“I would certainly welcome and embrace the entry of the VW Group,” Stroll explained in media interviews.

“I just think it would show the strength of our sport. If the strongest groups are in our sport it’s better for everyone involved, be it the fans, the team owners, the FOM or the FIA."

THIS IS REAL

Although most of this is in the talks stage, this has been more in an advance stage of development for the motorsports 2025 season. With participants in the change including Mercedes, Aston Martin and primarily the Red Bull racing team as a whole, Volkswagen F1 may become a reality instead of just a motorsport pitch. Time will tell as Volkswagen continues development talks with engine developers to curate the F1 4 Cylinder.
